BETWEEN LOCATIONS
We traveled to Morogoro, west of Dar-es-Salaam. The roads were a nice change from Bagamoyo.

In 1994, we took three of our five children with us to Tanzania. Maya was four and Sequoyah turned six in Bagamoyo. Corey, who was sixteen at the time made friends easily. He was like a Pied Piper with the local children since he was forever rapping Tupac. He made friends with a lot of the guards which worked to our advantage especially during those times we were staying in Dar-es-Salaam at Kurasini. Kurasini was a Catholic convent which had a 10p.m. curfew, when we were late the guards would look for Corey on the bus as his face was the key to our getting beyond the gate.

Mostly everyone thought we were crazy to bring our children along, since making an independent film in a foreign country is enough of a challenge, but it was a good experience for them and us.
Morogoro was a beautiful setting and a peaceful location. We arrived in the late afternoon and the following morning we set up and shot pretty much all day. As the sun began to set we called it a wrap, packed it in and were back on the road to Dar.
