On June 30, 1960, a young self-taught nationalist, Patrice Lumumba, became,

At thirteen she was subjected to it and spent the next twenty years recovering physically and emotionally from its cruel legacy. Fire Eyes explores the socio-economic, psychological, and medical consequences of this ancient custom which affects more than 80 million women worldwide.

NAVAJO TALKING PICTURE

This film is about the making of a film. An assimilated Indian filmmaker attempts to rediscover her own cultural heritage by filming the traditional lifestyle of her grandmother. Although she is Navajo, the filmmaker remains a stranger on the Reservation, separated from the Navajo people by her inability to speak their language and understand their culture. The filmmaker tries to resolve the conflict about camera taboos and miscommunication.  In the end, the granddaughter wants to learn the Navajo language and gain a greater understanding of the rift that forms when people are separated by geographical/cultural differences.

Lazaro Rosenberg-Acosta is having a rough time.  He makes the mistake of cheating on his fiancé while studying music in Cuba and returns to the mainland to receive a confrontation that brings him face down to the canvas, packed bags and all. To make things worse, his infidelity has offended the Yoruba deity of Love, Oshun and her wrath manifests in the form of stigmata. Lazaro's mother scrutinizes his deviation from his Jewish upbringing and sees his "voodoo" as a disturbingly similar echo to his deceased Puerto Rican father.  Lazaro's road to salvation is paved with anxiety and humiliation, ultimately leading to the Divine within.
