Thecla Mjatta, like many crew members wore several hats on the production. She was an invaluable asset as a Production Manager, and a very good Swahili teacher for many of us foreigners. As an Assistant Editor she was extremely helpful, as an actress, she is phenomenal. (She also won a Best Actress Award at the Frontline Film Festival (Zimbabwe, '90) for her portrayal of "Mariamu's Aunt" in ARUSI YA MARIAMU.)

There were days where the crew worked sixteen to seventeen hours. We were shooting an average of seven pages a day, with usually no more than three takes. Mafoudha Alley Hamid was a TAMWA intern. Gregory Beda, our sound man on production in 1994, died the following year after a long illness. Evodia Ndonde, our script supervisor is now working on television programming in Tanzania through her company, TACEFF.
